We know it can make some users feel apprehensive that their name appears on their Caption.Ed Scribe during online meetings.
We think it’s important that it’s there for a few reasons:
- If the host of the meeting knows who the Scribe belongs to, they are more likely to permit it to record on your behalf, getting you up and running more quickly.
- Other people on the call know who is recording them and where that recording is going, making them feel more comfortable to go ahead.
- If there are multiple people using Caption.Ed in a meeting, it’s easy to identify whose Scribe is whose.
We recommend taking the following steps:
- Speak to your manager or HR team to express your concerns. Ask them to inform others in the company that Caption.Ed is a captioning and note-taking tool some people use to capture essential information they need to do their jobs well, and this may mean “Caption.Ed Scribe” is used in some meetings to record on their behalf.
- If you're comfortable, you can send a message like the one below to those with whom you’ll regularly meet.
“Hi XXX, just wanted to give you the heads up that I may need to record some meetings we have with a tool called Caption.Ed. Caption.Ed is captioning and note-taking software. I use this so I can follow the conversation, look back on anything I might’ve missed and feel more confident in my role. Let me know if you have any concerns”
